Wine tasters - Pewter

Wine tasters, or porringers, were invented in England but were soon adopted all over Europe and in North America, especially in Boston and New York. It is a small dish with a tongue-shaped handle which is always richly decorated or covered with open-work filigree. Nowadays, it is well-known because it is what "sommeliers" wear round their necks when they open old bottles of wine.
